State Department of Health Releases Findings of Study on Cancer Risk From Crumb Rubber Fields
Back in November of 2015 former U.S. women's national star Julie Foudy did a report for ESPN on E:60 titled 'Turf Wars: How Safe Are The Fields Where We Play?'. The report was sparked by a list created by another former USWNT player, goalkeeper Amy Griffen. Griffen had begun compiling names of former goalkeepers and athletes who had played on crumb rubber fields and later been diagnosed with different forms of cancer.
This original E:60 episode especially caught my attention because my daughter's former ODP goalkeeper coach had himself battled non hodgkin's lymphoma. Below is the full episode for you to view to see what all was discovered.
A related story posted January 18, 2017 by The Seattle Times writer Matt Pentz, reports:
"A Washington State Department of Health investigation has found that artificial, crumb-rubber fields are not causing increased rates of cancer in local soccer players, officials announced Wednesday."
The article discusses the findings of the Washington State Department of Health investigation but you should read his entire article here:
What are your thoughts? Do you know a player or coach that spent significant time on crumb rubber fields who has been diagnosed with cancer? Do you trust the findings of the Washington State Department of Health?
